Ronan Point Disaster Gas explosion claimed 5 lives and injured 17

1970

Confederation (now Council) of Registered Gas Installers (CORGI) founded as a direct result of this disaster. Registration was voluntary

1991

CORGI Registration becomes mandatory by law

1996

CORGI Services formed to offer specialist services to the trade and consumers

1999

CORGI Services launched in response to heating industry needs offering branded products such as insurance, ventilation, electrical products

2005

CORGI set up the CORGI Trust, which sees all profits from the commercial side of the business being donated to the Trust

2006

Government instigate a review of gas safety highlighting issues with the current scheme

2009

Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in Great Britain and Isle of Man on 1 April 2009 and Northern Ireland and Guernsey on 1 April 2010

CORGI Services Limited is the fund-raising arm of The Gas Safety Trust – a registered charity, focusing on research into Carbon Monoxide poisoning

CORGI is also the fund-raising arm
