Free work notifications, an industry first from CORGI Membership.
Whether you’re a CORGI Heating Engineer, Benchmark Electrician, a Plumber, Ventilation technician, Renewables or Oil Installer it seems the CORGI Membership schemes cater for everyone, now with the added benefit of being able to notify work for free.
CORGI Memberships have come up with an industry first and are enabling all of their members to self certify for free as part of their revised competent persons schemes, whereas other scheme charge up to £2.
“We have listened to the feedback from contractors and have developed the new scheme and website with them in mind” stated John Martin Managing Director. “Contractors want support, recognition and service, but overall it’s the order books which count, hopefully our new schemes will give contractors all of this and more.”
The CORGI CPS is the only scheme to be offering free Work notification for its members, saving them up to £395 a year, “everyone knows you have to self certify your work under the competent persons scheme, but why should you have to pay more for this” stated Chris Kulski Operations Manager.
So, for those of you who aren’t aware here is an explanation of the government backed CPS schemes.
This may seem like a strange topic for those who are aware as they have been in place since 2002 and came more to the fore with the advent of Part P in 2005, however uptake has been disappointingly low, as has the level of work being notified. Benchmark Certification believe that a lack of understanding is at the root rather than an industry which is deliberately trying to avoid the requirements of the Building Regulations.
The schemes are overseen by the Department of Communities & Local Government (CLG) and are an intrinsic part of the Building Regulations. The Government is committed to the operation of the schemes and are looking now to implement measures to encourage membership. other initiatives such as free work notification should support this and make the cost of membership more manageable.
The primary function of the Building Regulations is to ensure the health & safety of people in and around buildings, ensure wholesome water supply and further energy efficiency, with auditable accountability. The Competent Persons Schemes recognise competent installers and enables them to self certify that their work meets the requirements of Building regulations , meaning that Building Control don’t need to be directly involved.
